Mba's Guide to the Internet: The Essential Internet Reference for Business Professionals
Published in Unknown Binding by Redmond Technology Press (April, 2002)
Authors: Stephen L. Nelson, Pat Coleman, and Redmond Technology Press
Average review score:

A Thorough and Useful Tool for Online Efficiency
This book includes a wealth of information on how to maximize the time you spend on the internet: a characteristic I find vitally important, because, as we all know, it's easy to spend hours looking for something online yet finding nothing. The book is well organized, and the index makes it easy to search for different topics of interest. The book will be of most use to someone who wants detailed information about different facets of the internet. For example, Nelson and Coleman outline the strengths and weaknesses of different search engines and services. They also include great information about government websites that help in researching information about businesses and demographics. The book even has information about how to design your own e-mail newsletter or put PowerPoint presentations online. Certainly, everyone won't need a 720-page guide to the internet, but I can see how it will be a useful tool for me.

A Timely and Realistic Guide to eCommerce
The MBA's Guide to the Internet describes itself in the Introduction as "the only book that specifically describes how you can more easily, more productively, and more powerfully use the Internet in business." While I'm not sure about it being the only book that attempts these goals, I know that it is the only book, of the many that I have read, that does a thorough job of it.

For the casual Internet user, this book is overkill. There are others that are shorter and more directed to the occasional surfing expedition.

However, this one is targeted specifically to a business market with timely and realistic discussions of just about everything you would want to know about the important role that the World Wide Web can play in the success of businesses today. Discussions on Setting Up a Web Store, Setting Up an Intranet, Online Banking, Online Investing and more make it a valuable manual for businesses already involved or just getting started with eCommerce.

Stands alone.
If you are looking for fishing tips or availability of gasoline in Catavina you sure won't find it here. This fine review will not give you the information you can find elsewhere. You will get some of the feeling and emotions from the writings women and men who have been "inspired by baja." The inner lives of gringos living in the glory of Baja.

The cover alone is easily more than worth the price.

Diverse and thoroughly entertaining reading.
Sea of Cortez provides an excellent anthology of short stories, personal narratives and literary pieces which looks like a magazine but reads like a blend of journal and travelogue. Writings are inspired by Baja California and provide excellent insights on local communities and Baja atmosphere.

Balancing on the Wire: The Art of Managing Media Organizations
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin College (March, 1998)
Authors: James Redmond and Robert Trager
Average review score:

Too valuable to leave on a shelf--Balancing on the Wire
Packed with historical context, supporting research and the comfortable style of a confident writer, this book is an invaluable resource for anyone who finds themself thrust into the precarious position of media management. It is also currently used as a college textbook for graduate-level journalism.
All major dimensions of management are addressed in this authoritative work. From the "evolution of a Free Press" and the role of "motivational fit" to corporate financial budgeting and legal regulations of libel and the Federal Communication Commission, "Balancing on the Wire" gives its readers a broad view and an insider's edge into the dynamic world of media leadership.
For those who've worked inside an adrenalin-soaked broadcast station or a raw-nerve newsroom, slip a copy of this humanistic survival guide into the holiday stocking of the company's CEO or your favorite upper-level Scrooge. It's a spoonful of potent medicine that mixes common sense and artistic inspiration in just the right pleasing proportions.
Cheers to Redmond and Trager for making special a topic that is hackneyed by the pseudo-bestsellers of MBAs in retirement.

Bob's Birthday

Bob the Builder in General
This show is the best thing that people could let their children watch. My 21 month old loves it, and so do I. I catch myself still watching it after he goes on to something else, or to sleep. I love the way that they put the children's everyday adventures into something that is going on with them. Like Muck thinking that Scoop was being hard on him one day, that is just like the trials that I went through as a child, and I know that children now days go through more than I did. This is definately a 5 star show and I'd recommend it to anyone with children, young or old.

The Book of Irish Golf
Published in Hardcover by Pelican Pub Co (November, 1997)
Author: John Redmond
Average review score:

Beautiful courses & a intriging history
This is a fine book for the golf enthusiast anywhere. It is a fascinating history and celebration of the game played by those who love it. Beginning with the origins of golf in Ireland this is a story of dynamic personalities who helped popularize the game. The evolution of the tools of the game is included with many great photos of early equipment and memorabilia. The stories of the great local and international golfers of Ireland are told in detail with some great action photos. Contributions of others such as Arnold Palmer are included, as is extensive coverage of ladies' golf, which has always been popular in Ireland. One of my favorite things about golf is the beauty of the courses and the Irish ones shown here are among the world's most exciting and varied, carved into the natural landscape. Any golfer will find something of joy in this book.

Useful Guide to Dreamweaver
I have wanted to learn about Dreamweaver for a while because I've produced Web Sites using other programs. This book proved to be a readable introduction to the program. Even when I wasn't on a computer, I could understand what the authors were describing. This book will sit on a shelf near my computer so that I can use it later to reference anything from importing different kinds of files to creating layers in Dreamweaver.
